4 Great Family Hikes Near La Petite Chalet

The property is nestled in beautiful surroundings with breath-taking views of Catawba Valley and Blue Ridge Mountains making it the perfect base to explore some of the hiking opportunities outlined below.
1 – Grassy Creek Waterfall Trail
The Grassy Creek Waterfall Trail is a short hiking trail close to the centre of Little Switzerland. You can find it just off of Chesnut Grove Church Road and follow it all the way to Grassy Creek Falls. The 30-foot waterfall is actually located on private property, but the owners are more than happy for visitors to hike on the trail and enjoy a visit to the waterfall. Since it is a reasonably short trail, this one is a great option for families with younger children who might find a longer hike too challenging.
2 – Wiseman’s View
Wiseman’s View sits almost 1500 feet above Linville River, overlooking the deepest gorge in the Eastern United States. It offers stunning views of Linville Gorge, Hawksbill Mountain, and Table Rock. It is a relatively easy walk to the viewpoint and is less than a mile round trip making it great for beginners!
Fun Fact! Wiseman’s View is also one of the spots from where it is possible to view the infamous and mysterious Brown Mountain Lights.
3 – Crabtree Falls
You will find the 70-foot-high Crabtree Falls close to milepoint 339 on the Blue Ridge Parkway and it is often considered one of the most picturesque spots in the area. It is well worth the hike. You have the option of hiking out and back over a total of 2.25 miles or completing the loop hike which takes the overall distance up to 3.8 miles. This is one of the more challenging hikes in the area with many rocky sections to navigate. It is only really recommended for older children.
